Lyme Park to Bollington Walk

Sunday 5th February, 2012

The walk starts at a car park on the Middlewood Way (a disused railway track) just east of Poynton GR 943826 at 10am prompt. It immediately goes through woodland to Hagg Farm, then heads up open country via Green Farm to the back corner of the mansion at Lyme Park. A visit to the outside of the mansion buildings can be made if you want at no cost. We then ascend to the Gritstone Trail and follow it to Sowcar and the excellent Poachers Pub at Bollington (tel: 01625 572086). Distance 6 miles.

A descent is made through Bollington to the canal aqueduct. Much interest at first with wonderful industrial mills at the side of the canal then a plod along the canal until it is possible to move to the Middlewood Way and back to the car park. Distance 4 miles.

This is a wonderful varied walk on good, dry paths with an ascent of about 1000ft.

NB.  The organiser has been changed to Lionel Greenslade.
